After The Tenth..... When The Fun Really Begins

As I previously mentioned, Macy has developed the skill of mobility. She's still working on mastering this new talent, but it's coming along quite nicely. That first day after she realized that should could actually move herself, she could only go about 3-4 crawls without falling down. She's now developed the ability to stay moving for longer and longer distances.

At this point, her ability to crawl seems in direct correlation to the object that she desires to be near. I wouldn't post a video in which she's not that motivated to crawl, so in the video below you will see that we put one of her favorite objects on the other side of the rug.  If you can't tell, we put a toy cellphone on the floor.

From her reaction, it is clear that somewhere deep in the female DNA there is a strand that fuses a special bond between a girl and her telephone.

As you probably know from recent posts, Annie and Macy are in Minnesota visiting family. This evening I was at a birthday party for the son of one of our neighbors. During the party I ducked out to come home and feed the dog and have a quick video call with Annie.

At the start of the call, Annie said she had something to show me. Last night Macy started to get herself up on all fours and rock a bit. Annie wanted to show me that crawling was probably going to happen soon. What neither of us realized was that crawling was going to begin at that very moment.

The camera was on the ground in front of Macy and before my "eyes" (or the camera's eye as the case may be) she inched forward, getting larger and larger on the screen.

Macy crawled tonight!!!!

I returned to the party a beaming dad and made sure that everyone heard the good news. Now that I'm home, I've already installed a number of outlet plugs and the cabinet locks are going on this week. Things are about to get really interesting.

Once Macy reached 6 months (Uh, how did that happen?) she met the minimum age requirement for the local swimming class. I was afraid that it would be a little boring for her, since she's already logged hours in a number of pools and the intracoastal, but it really turned into a fun time. Class was Monday thru Thursday for 2 weeks and Macy signed up with two of her closest friends, the Wagner twins, who you can see in two of the pictures below.

I was able to leave work early enough to join the fun a few times, once just in time to take photos and the other times to actually get in the pool and participate. There are a few pictures where it looks like Macy is under the water, and it is not an illusion, she was. I can't say she it was her favorite thing, but she certainly didn't hate it. When you lift her up out of the water, she gives you a sort of "What the F&%# did you just do to me?" look, but after a second or two, her classic smile return.

After a few classes you could actually see some changes in her comfort level in the water. Some of her classes happened to coincide with grandma's visit, so there are a few really good shots that I thought about posting and letting you assume I took. But then I decided to be upfront and honest, since I'm trying to set a good example for my daughter.

[Before anyone goes and calls DCF (Department of Children and Families) about us being cruel and dunking our baby, you'll notice that the first person to do it is wearing the "official" Lifeguard t-shirt, so we were acting under the guidance and suggestion of an expert!!!!]
