A Very Un-lady Like Evening

(Warning: This post contains juvenile topics; Proceed at your own risk)

Last week, Macy participated in quite un-lady like behaviors. (And I'm only a little ashamed to say that I couldn't have been prouder) It started as I arrived home from work after a pretty bad day, to find Annie changing Macy's diaper; a regular occurrence in a 4 month old's life. What wasn't regular was the fact that the diaper wasn't real dirty, even though she poo-ed. That's because my clearly very special daughter found a way to bypass the diaper and to just get it all the way up her back. It was disgusting, to say the least. So gross that only thing we could do was laugh...oh yeah, and clean her up.

After "the mess" as we like to refer to it, was addressed, I took Macy into the office with me. I was feeling a little better after laughing at the disgusting start to the evening, but I was still harboring some frustration over the days events. Without really thinking about it, I "accidently" let a little burp out and Macy instantly giggled. At this point I did what any self-respecting red blooded American male would do, and I forced myself to burp again, just to see what would happen....more giggles. Sweet. At this point my work stresses started to dissipate and my only focus was on my daughter and how many times I could make her laugh.

For the record the burping and laughing session lasted about 10 minutes, with the laughs getting louder as the burps did. I think I shed a little tear of joy that evening!!!

For those of you who are utterly disgusted with me and my little one, I have some good news for you. The next night I tried my new trick to see if I could get more cheap laughs and I failed miserably. Somehow over the course of a day, Macy had matured (something her dad obviously hasn't done) and no longer found the juvenile act of burping humorous. Oh well...it was fun while it lasted.

Breast Feeding Was So Much Cleaner Than This

Macy has graduated from just eating milk, to now getting  supplemented with rice cereal and oatmeal. A few nights ago I got to feed my daughter with a spoon. What a fun and MESSY experience. The first few spoonfuls didn't go so well. I think the bib received more cereal than her belly did. We are finding that each attempt is getting more and more food inside of her instead of on her. Besides learning to like eating from a spoon, Macy has also learned to like washing down her cereal with finger sandwiches. (These are not the cute little sandwiches served at classic tea parties, but fingers that are still attached to her hands.)

As if getting the food from the spoon to her mouth wasn't hard enough, she's now pulling the food back out with her hands. So to combat this, we now try to occupy her hands while shoveling in the food. As you will see in the photos below, we are successful at this only some of the time.

(I actually started writing this post about 2 weeks ago and just couldn't finish it...so now there's an update)

Macy has decided that cereal by itself is just BORING. She needs some flavors!!!

So, for the past 3 days, she's been developing a taste for a new vegetable. I'm betting you are expecting it to be peas or carrots? BORING!!

How about rutabaga? That's right...we are feeding her rutabaga, and I'm not embarrassed to say that I had to look it up on Wikipedia for the spelling and to learn what a rutabaga looks like. For those of you who were like me, and not really familiar with them, they are Swedish turnips or yellow turnips.

Macy's doctor suggested that we start with yellow vegetables and then move onto orange ones. Just for the record, how many yellow vegetables can you name? (I got summer squash and nothing else.....) Annie tells me that parsnips and turnips are also part of the yellow family, so they are next in line.

Wanna see some photos of Macy learning to eat from a spoon?????

PS: HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all of the mothers out there and especially to my beautiful wife who celeberated her 1st Mother's Day today. (Ask her about the cool gift Macy got her....)

Big News: She Moved Out On Me 2 Weeks Ago

Posted By: ScottMay 3, 2010 1 Comments

She moved out on me two weeks ago and I'm not afraid to admit that I'm devastated. It seems like only yesterday that we started sharing a room and now its over; now she has her own place. When I roll over at night, I can't see her lying there sleeping peacefully. Instead, I have to go visit her at her place........the nursery down the hall.

That's right, Macy has officially graduated from the pack-n-play in our closet and into her own crib, located in the nursery. It wasn't easy making the switch and the first few nights were a bit challenging, but these days it is going much better.
